Carrie Newcomer & Philip Gulley

in word and song:
one evening … two Quakers … infinite possibilities

Acclaimed singer/songwriter Carrie Newcomer and award-winning author Philip Gulley are coming together to present In Word and Song, an intimate evening of music and story in a distinctive Midwestern style. Operating at the intersection of progressive writing and spiritual music, Phil and Carrie will share their insights as active participants within this growing movement. With beautiful vocals, passionate prose, and a healthy dose of humor, Newcomer and Gulley are certain to delight and inspire your audience.

Newcomer, a Quaker, cuts across secular and spiritual boundaries and is one of the most notable singer/songwriters working within the progressive spiritual continuum. Her new Rounder release, The Geography of Light, is about navigating and exploring the appearance of light and shadow in our lives. In a world that encourages us to move faster and think bigger, Newcomer invites the listener to slow down and reflect on the small things that make life worthwhile.

"Carrie Newcomer is much more than a musician. She's a poet, storyteller, snake-charmer, good neighbor, friend and lover, minister of the wide-eyed gospel of hope and grace."
— Barbara Kingsolver (Author, The Poisonwood Bible)

Gulley, a Quaker pastor, has become the voice of small-town American life. Along with writing Front Porch Tales, Hometown Tales, and For Everything a Season, he is the author of the Harmony series of novels, as well as co-authoring If Grace Is True and If God Is Love with James Mulholland. Gulley was raised in Danville, Indiana. Many of his characters and recollections are taken from his boyhood in this small Midwestern town.

"Phillip Gulley is a Quaker pastor from Indiana with a charming sense of small-town life — and a shrewd sense of life in general."
— The Wall Street Journal
