John McCutcheon Releases New CD
John McCutcheon has released a new CD, 22 Days (Appalsongs Records, 2013). This project began as an homage to John’s friend Vedran Smailovic, the “Cellist of Sarajevo,” who, in honor of 22 people killed by a bomb in a Bosnian breadline, played for 22 days in a row at the bombing site. With no goal, no album planned and beginning 20 years to the day of the beginning of Smailovic’s action, John wrote at the same hour every day to simply see what would happen … over 30 songs happened. With a couple of exceptions, it is songs from this writing intensive that make up the songs of 22 Days.

In November 2013, 22 Days had 8 songs in the Top 25 of Albums and Songs compiled by Richard Gillmann from FOLKDJ-L radio playlists (based on 11,735 airplays from 129 different DJs). John was also the top artist for the month on the list.
